I am feeling agitated today!
My husband has had a terrible cold this week and is unable to sleep. So, I too, am without rest!
Both contractors who have spent the past couple of weeks working on our trim, roofing, shutters and gutters have failed us tremendously leaving shoddy work that we are now having to follow up! Because of the outside disarray, we have not decorated our home. So our home looks barren among our neighbors' lights and wreaths.
My puppies seem unusually whiny and continue to rival the other in barking, growling and tussling. I must add that they seem a bit more muddy than usual, tracking in the outdoors in a single bound.
Steff (my oldest daughter) comes home for the holidays on Sunday and my office-turned-guestroom is still cluttered with research manuals, dissertations of my more fortunate colleagues, graded final exams, and unwrapped gifts that have arrived from their respective .com origins.
We are hosting Christmas and I have yet to decorate the house, write my annual Christmas letter, or plan the menu.
To top it all, my new Kindle that I just purchased yesterday (and downloaded several wonderful Christmas stories) has decided to quit working!
So, I decided to go to the gym to work off some of my restlessness.
Only, the music seemed to be excessively loud and every other word of the song lyrics seemed to require an apology by the instructor. "So, who chose this music?" I thought.
After two hours of jumping, pumping and cycling, I took myself (now, sweaty AND agitated) home.
I decided that I would put all of this assertiveness to good use and I called Amazon about my Kindle. I braced myself (with a Venti coffee) for a 50 minute wait and started wrapping some of the gifts strewn on the bed.
Only...someone ( a real person) answered the phone. She asked me how she could help and when I told her, she replied, "I am so sorry! Let's see if we can fix this for you right now." Right now!
She told me to hold the power button for a few seconds and then release. As I released both the button (and the breath that I had been holding) the Kindle came back to life. At first with a flicker and then with a full green flash.
I squealed with delight! "Will there be anything else?" the kind voice on the other end inquired.
"No. This is great. You are my new best friend."
"No problem." she laughed. "Sometimes our system gets overwhelmed and all you have to do ...is reboot."
So, here I am with my final purge realizing that I HAVE a warm home that is being renovated, and the means to buy silly e-book toys, and the health to complete two hours of aerobic exercise, and the family to celebrate the holidays!
Well, I am off now. I have a date with two fuzzy, warm puppies, for a nice long walk on a cold, quiet, unplugged, Winter day.
My wish is that you find the time for a much deserved (and needed) rebooting so that you may see the blessings that surround you in your life!
